The Brief:
In 1988 the World Class Wreckin Cru released “Turn Off The Lights” as a single. The song was written by the group’s founder Alonzo Williams who co-produced the track with Dr. Dre. Williams, Dre and DJ Yella provided vocals while Michel’le sang the female lead part. The song reached the Top 40 on the R&B charts and spent 11 weeks on the Hot 100. That same year, Dre and Yella’s group N.W.A. released the landmark ‘Straight Outta Compton’ album. Quite a contrast in music styles, don’t you agree?

Another one that’s new to me…but Michel’Le! haven’t heard her in a while. Loved her No More Lies and Nicety…so this should be interesting.
Thanks Richie, but it so shocking to hear about Donna Summer’s passing this morning when I woke up :-(

Yeah, I was really sad to hear the news about Donna. Wish I’d had one of her records ready to post but, I didn’t. A wonderful talent gone way too soon.

      • ric says:

You did do Love Is In Control previously, Richie.
That is one of Donna’s most excellent record and your tribute.

  2. I would like to ask you the following. Could you please tell me the chart positions and the date release of all the Breakfast Club Singles? I suppose they released 6 singles. Thank you very much. Best regards. :-)

  3. Kate says:

Their albums World Class (85) and Rapped In Romance (86) are masterpieces in Electro Hip-Hop. I love and listen to them til today.
    Thanks for this one.

I read a LOOONG time ago that Dre does not acknowledge this song, bought up the rights and kept this from distribution on 80s compilations, etc. Apparently this no longer fit his image. Maybe he has changed his mind; however, you may get a cease on this one. But thanks! :)
