The A Side:

Drive Me Wild (Extended Version) 7:08

The B Side:
Bite The Beat (LP Version) 3:12

The Brief:
On February 18, 1983, I and three buddies piled into my Chevette (yes, my little blue Chevette), along with a cooler full of hunch punch in the hatchback, and drove from Sylvester, GA to Tallahassee, FL to see Prince, The Time and Vanity 6 on the 1999 Tour. As we walked in to the arena, Vanity 6 was taking the stage. We walked all the way down to the stage and just stood there, awestruck, as these three beautiful women performed onstage, clad only in lingerie. We just stood there, mouths agape, until security came along and shooed us to our seats. Once seated, I could make out the silhouettes of The Time as they played for the girls behind a curtain on the stage. It was the first major concert I had ever been to and a scene I will never forget.

Today’s 12” is “Drive Me Wild” from Vanity, Susan and Brenda on their lone self-titled LP of 1982. This 12” features the extended version of “Drive Me Wild” and the LP Version of “Bite The Beat” on the flip.

    Awesome Rich

I loved Vanity so much when I was a teen in the 80s – Prince was a lucky one to slip her the royal purple staff

love your recount here, and Prince is not a bad act to initiate you into the world of concerts!
concerts were rare and sparse here…and I only managed to watch my first concert in the late 80s. It was Miami Sound Machine I think…that or Daryl Hall & John Oates.
