The Brief:
Tony! Toni! Tone! are D’wayne Wiggins on lead vocals and guitar, Raphael Saadiq on lead vocals and bass, and Timothy Christian Riley on drums. Oddly enough, not one Tony or Toni or Tone in the bunch. Their first major label LP was released in 1988 and spawned a #1 on the Billboard Hot Black Singles chart. In 1990 they broke through in a major way with their second album, ‘The Revival’, that featured four #1 songs on the Billboard Hot Black Singles chart. “The Blues” was the first in that string of number ones. It entered the Billboard Hot Black Singles chart on April 14, 1990 and stayed around for 16 weeks. It also debuted at #89 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart on June 2, 1990. It peaked there at #46 while lasting 10 weeks on the chart.
