The Brief:
Do any songs bring back memories of cruising down the road, with the windows down and the cassette deck blasting out a jam for all within earshot to hear? This is one of those songs that does it for me. In 1986, when this song hit, I was in my third year of college at Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA. I ran out to the local Turtles record store and snapped up this 12”, brought it home and recorded it to cassette immediately. I blasted this jam over and over for months.

There are several conflicting stories about who was the driving force behind Timex Social Club. This much we do know, the record was produced by Jay King and Denzil Foster. Members of the group at that time were Marcus Thompson (founder), Michael Marshall (lead vocals), Alex Hill and Kevin Moore. The band went through lineup changes and Jay King and Denzil Foster went on to form Club Nouveau. Whatcha think tomorrow’s post is gonna be…?

    Lean On Me?
Why You Hurt Me So Bad?
    Jealousy?
Frankly speaking, I don’t mind any or all of the three!
I remember their feud just went on and on…It’s a Mixed Up World (do you have this 12″ as well?) indeed!
According to Jay King, he hates everyone in TSC, especially Marshall who stabbed him in the back and kicked him out of TSC.
The rest of my tale would be more appropriate in your next post. heh heh

I have this spread over 2 UK 12s, one of which is credited to The Social Club, so I guess there was problems with the watch makers initially? Anyway, there looks to be 7 or 8 mixes on the 2 I have including some by Shep Pettibone and Dancing Danny ‘D’.
