The Brief:
Thelma Houston is not related to Cissy, Whitney or Dionne. Now that that is out of the way, who is Thelma Houston? She is a 1978 Grammy Award winner for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance of the song “Don’t Leave Me This Way”, a #1 hit in 1976. Thelma hit the Top 40 once more in her career in 1979 with “Saturday Night, Sunday Morning”. In 1984, Thelma released the LP ‘Qualifying Heat’. Side One consists of four songs written and produced by Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis and Monte Moir. Side Two consists of four songs with various producers. The album enjoyed mild success on the Billboard Top Black Albums chart in 1985 where it peaked at #30 on February 16, 1985. The album charted for 17 weeks before bowing out.

Wasn’t released on CD… until 2007 by the Bluebird reissue label.
May have been initially released on CD in Japan in ’84?
