The Brief:
The first of three singles released from The Time’s sophomore effort ‘What Time Is It?’.  Released in 1982, “777-9311″ debuted on the Billboard R&B chart on August 21, 1982.  It climbed to a peak position of #2, where it stayed for 3 weeks, and spent a total of 19 weeks on the chart.  It debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart on October 9, 1982 at #92, climbed to #88 and dropped off the chart after only a 3 week stay.  The B-Side “Grace” has never appeared on CD.  Songwriting credits are listed on the record for Morris day but, it is widely known that Prince composed, produced and performed the majority of ‘What Time Is It?’ under the pseudonym Jamie Starr.  And now, ladies, gentlemen and others… “Morris Day and The motherfuckin’ Time!”

Has there ever been a better back breaking funk beat?

    Cracking piece of funk history.

Grace is probably the most unheard released Time track. I’m shocked to see this. Unreal.
