The A Side:

The B Side:
Just Be Good To Me 8:55
The Brief:
The band that got Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis “fired” from The Time by Prince. Probably the best career move they could have made. Jam and Lewis first worked with The S.O.S. Band on their ‘S.O.S. III’ album by collaborating on the song “High Hopes”. For the band’s next album, ‘On the Rise’, the guys produced three songs including tonight’s 12”. “Just Be Good To Me” enjoyed great chart success and spent two weeks at #2 on the Hot Black Singles chart.

Loving the Flytetyme posts – Thank you!
Do you have Cherrelle’s “When You Look In My Eyes” 12inch?
You’re welcome, that Cherrelle record isn’t part of my collection… yet
Thanks! A great song in brilliant soundquality!
you’re welcome and thank you!
I was pretty disappointed when The Time was not in LA for the 1999 Tour. I had seen them in ’81 and thought they were the best band I had ever seen (still true).
Thanks…this is me favorite SOS Band song.
I had the privilege of seeing the “Triple Threat” 1999 tour in Tallahassee FL in February of 1983. It was my first concert, what a way to start, right?
Spoiled from the beginning
yeah pretty much!
Funny.. this is one of this songs that I heard a lot of times back then and somehow never knew who sang it or the name of the song. Thank you for the memories.
See, not only is my blog entertaining and useless, it’s educational and informative as well!
useless? NEVER!!!
Music has been the only thing that over the years has been with me and never failed to give company in good and bad. : )
easy there, wasn’t referring to the music as useless… just me
As a sidenote… It really intrigues me that a few good men like you around the net, are able to produce good rips of music (HR or not) taken from Vinyl (which is basically a copy) while others out there (meaning people working at the labels) butcher music even though they have professional equipment and resources that for us regular human beings could only see in dreams, and probably most of times, original masters to work with if need be.
For your hard work Thanks a million.
P.S. No brownnosing just sincere gratitude.
That is very flattering Ricki, thank you for the very kind words. I’m really glad that you enjoy the work and time I put into these records, makes it all worthwhile!
Really nice to have some SOS band…….:)
Do you have any more???
Thanx for your hard work
MM
One more for today, then moving on to some other artists… but, yeah, still have some more for the future, that’s how I grab and retain readers, by teasing them, LOL
Please Post some more S.O.S. Band soon!
This is one THE greatest songs ever.
wow, high praise indeed
Like Ain’t Nobody, this is one of those classic 80s jams that you will never get sick of!
Richie, would you happen to know how many versions there are for this?
I’ve seen quite a few with different timings, and don’t know if they are distinct or just edits….
aw man, I have no idea, this is the only 12″ I have of it
ello thanx 2 discogs + some cut ‘n’ paste the ‘results’ are as follows :-
A Just Be Good To Me (Vocal Remix) 8:10
B Just Be Good To Me (Instrumental Mix) 5:16
Just Be Good To Me (Long Version) 10:18
Just Be Good To Me (Album Version) 9:03
Just Be Good To Me (Promo Version) 8:55
as you can see you pays your money and takes your choice, this versions longer than the standard 12” – though there is Uber long version & 7” and instrumental’s with different timings – how mad/complete do you want lol
Adam, doing the work the blogger is too lazy to do! Thanks Adam!
Your blog is fantastic! Thanks! I’ve been looking everywhere for a decent copy of this track – you wouldn’t believe how tricky it is to get even a $2 record when you’re in Hong kong… If you happen to come across the instrumental version, you’d be doing us all a great service by posting it. There aren’t any worthwhile copies floating around on the net, and the instrumental is actually quite good; the instrumentation differs considerably from the vocal version.
Thanks!
I’m always looking, if I run across it, it will show up here
Thanks Richie. I only had this on a compilation cassette.
