The Brief:
Sometime around 1980 when I was about 15 or so years old… I went on a vacation with my family to Busch Gardens in Tampa FL. One morning while we were eating breakfast in the hotel restaurant, this scraggly, odd-looking group of guys came in and sat down to eat. I couldn’t quite determine who these guys were but, I was highly suspicious that they were musicians. It so happened that as my family and I finished up and was walking out of the restaurant that they were leaving, too. Because my curiosity was piqued at this point, I got up the nerve to ask one of them, “Are you guys in a band or something?” He casually, in a distinct British accent, said “Yeah, we’re The Psychedelic Furs”. I think I may have replied “Oh OK” or nodded my head or something. Of course, at that point I had never heard of a psychedelic fur in my life so, it didn’t really mean much until in 1982 I heard “Love My Way” on the radio and found out that it was The Psychedelic Furs!
Five years later the Furs released the album ‘Midnight to Midnight’ and the first single from the LP was “Heartbreak Beat” which receives the remix treatment from Steve Thompson & Michael Barbiero on this 12″. It is the only US Top 40 hit for the band.

One of my favourite 12″ singles from 1987.
The Thompson & Barbiero Remix enhances the mood of the song so well. And the video is very stylised as well I recall.
And love your trivia about meeting the guys…thanks, Richie!
Thanks a lot for this one!! Great quality… as usual…
