The Brief:
The Bar-Kays began performing and working in Memphis, Tennessee in 1966 as a studio session musician group, backing major artists at Stax Records. The band was chosen in 1967 as Otis Redding’s touring band. Tragedy struck on Dec 10, 1967 when 4 band members along with Otis Redding died in a plane crash on the way to a Madison, WI concert. Ben Cauley survived the crash and one other band member, James Alexander, was flying on a different plane. The two men rebuilt the group bringing in Harvey Henderson, Michael Toles, Ronnie Gorden, Willie Hall, and Larry Dodson. In 1976, the band began recording for Mercury Records. Their ninth Mercury release, the LP ‘Dangerous’, came in 1984. It spawned the single “Sexomatic” which is today’s featured 12”.

They don’t do old school jams like this no more.
Remember also their Freakshow On The Dancefloor from the Breakdance Movie?
In the days, breakers loved locking and popping to that.
Heck yes I remember that! The movie was Breakin’. Got that soundtrack on vinyl and CD.
This was played constantly in clubs here in Iceland back in the day.
Thanx for this
Cheers
MM
