The A Side:
The Funk Shop (Radio Version) 3:23
The F**k Shop (Nasty Version) 3:23
The B Side:
European Ultimix 10:32
The Brief:
“The Funk Shop” comes from The 2 Live Crew’s 1989 double platinum selling album “As Nasty As They Wanna Be”. The single samples heavily from Van Halen‘s “Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love” and also features Slash’s guitar riff from Guns N’ Roses‘s “Sweet Child O’ Mine”. This 12” release also includes a 10:32 European Ultimix of the group’s previous hits.
Here’s wishing you a FUN weekend and a reminder that next week is Vienna Vintage Dance Week…

Thanks Richie. I’m looking forward to checking this one out when I get home from work. I’m especially intrigued by the two samples mentioned, easily two of my favorite 80s’ rock songs.
The GnR riff isn’t quite as promiment as the VH sample
Happy weekend, Richie!
Thanks for this and I’m keen to check out the Megamix to see if it’s Megadirty…LOL!
You’re welcome Ric. Hope your weekend has been a good one so far…
Thanks Richie. I liked this 12″ even more than Me So Horny. It also included the Ultimix/Funkymix Mega..Mix
! This Megamix version differed from the one that was included on Funkymix 3 -> http://www.discogs.com/Various-Funkymix-3/release/464820 <- !
Maaaaan, those memories of buying those records by chosing between different versions (US, UK or elsewhere) and hunting down records like this as (for me) American imports…even if they were very expensive
You’re welcome FP, I bought a few Funkymix CD compilations back in the day, don’t think 2 Live were on any of them though
Hi. The Megamix is on THE BEST OF FUNKYMIX ( http://www.discogs.com/Various-The-Best-Of-Funkymix-1/master/79608 ) which I own as a double CD set. Back in the days I bought every issue from Volume 8 to Volume 30. Spent a lot of bucks for them back then.
Do you have the “Throw the D… + Ghetto Bass I” 12″ by 2Live?
I have it, but I am unable to do a needledrop of your quality. Greetings, FP
btw – I still have all of them CDs
. Funkymix 10 includes POP THAT P*+*Y by 2Live…
“As Nasty As They Wanna Be” was a cool album
But they blew up and fizzled out
A lot of their stuff was recycled / rehashed ideas
Their 12″ singles were a little disapointing too.
I still have this on cassette maxi single
But dont even own a player any more lol
Thanks
yep, I agree, never bought another 12″ by them after this track, think I bought 1 CD single after this, “Table Dance”? or something like that…
looked it up, it was “Shake A Lil’ Somethin’…” not “Table Dance”
