The Brief:
The lead voice you heard on Mtume’s smash hit “Juicy Fruit” was Tawatha Agee’s. Her one and only solo album, ‘Welcome To My Dream’, was released in 1987. The first single was “Thigh Ride” and it entered the Billboard Hot Black Singles chart May 23, 1987. During a 15 week chart run, the song went Top 10, topping out at #7.

just curious – I heard somewhere that ‘Juicy Fruit’ was offered to Diana Ross – only 2 knock it back – anyone confirm/deny?
Her album “Tawatha – Welcome To My Dream” has been reissued in 2010 on funktowngrooves records, nicely remastered from the original master tapes and includes two 12″ bonus mixes. Definitely recommended!
However the Whisker Burn Mix is missing on this cd, therefore as always thank you for your effort to make the old vinyl treasures available in digital format.
