The Brief:
Aretha Franklin released the album ‘Young, Gifted and Black’ in 1971 which contained the song “Rock Steady”. The single reached the #9 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 charts and peaked at #2 on the Best Selling Soul Singles chart.
In 1988, Sue Ann Carwell worked with Jesse Johnson and several other producers including Robert Brookins and Mtume to produce the album ‘Blue Velvet’. One of those Jesse produced tracks was a cover of “Rock Steady” which was released as a single and is featured on this 12” with remixes by Louil Silas, Jr.
