The Brief:
Before “Baby Got Back” blew up and made Sir Mix-A-Lot a household name, the rapper was putting out wild and varied records covering everything from buttermilk biscuits to square dance raps to Black Sabbath covers backed by the rock band Metal Church. This 1986 12” on Sir Mix-A-Lot’s Nastymix Records label features the track “I’m A Trip” and (the reason I bought the record) the Power Mix of “Square Dance Rap”. The main track on this 12”, “I’m A Trip” is not listed as a track on his first two albums that were released in 1988 and 1989. “Square Dance Rap” was on his first LP ‘Swass’ in 1988.

The first impression I had of rap was that it sounded like square dancing.
Thanks for the “Power Mix”.
Heh, I like that description. You’re welcome.
Please please PLEASE tell me you have and will post the double 12″ promo of Baby Got Back.
My copy is all messed up…those mixes were incredible and they never released them on vinyl or cd. I am still totally in awe they were never released in their entirety. Thanks in advance if you can post!
Sadly, no, I don’t have that set. But, I will add it to my list of records to look for when I am record shopping,
