The A Side:
Special Medley of The Glamorous Life / Sister Fate / A Love Bizarre Part 1 7:08
The B Side:
A Love Bizarre Parts 1 and 2 7:14
The Brief:
Due to the lackluster performance of “Sister Fate” on the charts, a follow-up single “A Love Bizarre”, was quickly prepared and pushed out to radio. This is the only track from “Romance 1600” that fully credits Prince’s involvement. The song fared much better, garnering Sheila E. her second Top 20 on the Hot 100. Today’s 12” is a release from Germany that features a medley of “The Glamorous Life”, “Sister Fate” and “A Love Bizarre Part 1” on side one and a 7:14 version of “A Love Bizarre Parts 1 And 2” on the flip.

The Prince credit isn’t quite accurate in the description above. Prince is also credited with vocals and bass on track 5, “Yellow”. I forget if he’s credited as co-writer or not.
Which is why I qualified it with the word “fully”.
Nice twist. I had never heard the medley before. I thought Sister Fate was just OK…odd that they didn’t peg “A Love Bizarre” at the lead single?
Supposedly, “A Love Bizarre” was rush released because “Sister Fate” did so poorly. So, they obviously knew “ALB” was a stronger song. Who knows what the little purple guy was thinking?
Prince usually tried to distance and disguise his involvement in these “side” projects. For example, when Madhouse came out, all the promotion made out that it was Eric Leeds’ project and didn’t credit Prince. So, for Sheila E.’s second album, Prince (or Sheila?) probably wanted a lead-off single that did not have Prince’s vocals all over it, so that it would be received as Sheila’s music rather than as a Prince song “featuring Sheila E.”
Maybe the thinking was, OK Sheila, you got your name out there on a Top 10 single, let’s see how you stand on your own. And, if that doesn’t work out, we’ve got this track with Prince’s name on it to ride to the rescue if needed…
You’re right Richie. The version of the album lasts 12:18 minutes, while the so-called “Part 1 & Part 2″ is 7:13 minutes.
There is only a promo version that includes the ALB version. All others are “Part One & Part Two”.
