The B Side:
Sugar Walls (Red Mix) 5:26
The Brief:
I doubt there’s much I can tell you about this record that you don’t already know… It was written by Prince, under the pseudonym Alexander Nevermind, for Sheena Easton‘s 1984 LP ‘A Private Heaven’. The song was banned from video play because of the lyrics, not the imagery in the video, and it made Tipper Gore’s Filthy Fifteen list during the whole “music is destroying the very fabric of our society” hysteria in the mid-80′s. The song still went Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and R&B singles charts, probably because of all the publicity generated by the PMRC crowd flipping their lid over the lyrics.
The Billboard Charts:

this saucy song created quite a stir back then, but seems tame now in this age of F*ck You and Tonight I’m F*cking You.
Still, this is classic Prince, and the first corruption of Sheena “Morning Train” Easton LOL!
hey ric, question from your other comment, did the font size increase make the blog easier to read for you?
Yes, it did help…
so size DOES matter! LOL!
Loooove this track in all its 7 minute glory! I was 11 when this song was a hit record, and it’s funny how the meaning behind tunes like this and Cyndi Lauper’s “She Bop” went right over my head back then. On the other hand, Prince’s “Darling Nicki”…not so subtle.
Keep up the great posts! Lovin’ the new site, btw.
well, your friendly neighborhood blogger was 19 at that time, I caught on to it right away, LOL. but, as Ric said, what seemed so “dirty” then is so so tame now
