The Brief:
Exactly 6 months ago today, Jan. 16, 2010, I was noodling around on eBay and I ran across this auction title: RONNIE MILSAP SHE LOVES MY CAR 12 1984 VG++. At first, I figured, yeah, probably a radio edit and the album cut or something. So, I clicked on it to discover this awesome piece of 80′s schlock! Remixed by John Morales and Sergio Munzibai… better known in the DJ world as M+M. This guilty pleasure of a song had been fleshed out into over 6 minutes of pure cheesy joy! I never knew this existed, never ever even suspected such. Quickly I did a “Buy it now” to ensure no one else stumbled upon this prize and bought it out from under me! (Ha! Like anyone else even cares about this record) So, after it arrived I put it down on the turntable and recorded it to my PC so that I could ensure this classic would never be lost. And now, here it is for you guys to enjoy…
“She Loves My Car” was the third single released from Ronnie’s 16th studio album, ‘One More Try For Love’, in 1984. It is the only single released by Milsap that was not promoted to country radio. It only went to pop stations but, despite that push, it only managed to get to #84 on Billboard’s Hot 100. The song was written by Roy Freeland and Bill LaBounty (Bing those 2 names country music fans!) Did I mention the remix was done by M+M? That still blows my mind.
The song was also accompanied by a music video that received airplay on MTV. Actors in the video included Scott McGinnis, Mariska Hargitay, Herve Villchaize, John Doe and Exene Cervenka! A complete, humorous and informative breakdown of the video is over at Popdose and well worth the read.

Looks awesome! Love these mixes that we never knew existed. Now I’m off to watch the video. Thanks!
Holy Moly! This is a GREAT find. Ronnie’s songs were perfect for remixing. Too bad it only rarely happened. “Stranger in My House” needed an extended mix for sure. Thank you much!
You’re most welcome. I dearly loved that song when it came out, I was unbelievably excited nearly 30 years later when I happened upon an extended 12″ mix of it! Couldn’t believe it…
