The A Side:
If It Ain’t One Thing…It’s Another 3:55
The B Side:
Mr. Look So Good 3:49
The Brief:
Richard “Dimples” Fields‘ breakthrough single came in 1982 with “If It Ain’t One Thing…It’s Another”, which reached number one for three weeks on the US Billboard Hot Black Singles chart. He had first recorded and released the song for his own record label, DRK in 1975, in which he lamented not only the world’s problems, but also those of his own life (from an ugly pregnant girlfriend to the need to read the Bible). Fields was persuaded to re-record and update it by an old friend, including it on his album, ‘Mr. Look So Good!’, before it was issued as a single. It was the only Billboard Hot 100 entry of his career. Richard died in January 2000 of a stroke at the age of 57. The 7” version is shortened to 3:55 from the LP version of 6:50.

Gorgeous!
Another of my favourite Soul Ballads from that year!
Thanks for this 7″ version, the full version can just go on and on sometimes…
I have the album on vinyl, and it is pretty difficult to find on CD.
Now if you have any Stevie Woods albums or singles (especially the Steal The Night single and Take Me To Your Heaven album)…i will squeal with pure delight!
I agree about the the full version going on and on, I have to really be in the mood to hear that one which is why I sought out the 7″. It’s a great song made even better by the 7″ edit, in my opinion. An exception to to the rule in most cases.
Have you heard Don’t Ever Stop Chasing Your Dreams? It is another beautiful song, and is mold after this.
I don’t know if there is a 7″ for that, but the album version went on and on again, and this time it’s a conversation with his very young son.
Quite charming at first, but after few listens, you really need to be in the mood to listen again
alas, I only have an mp3 of Steal The Night, no vinyl, sorry. great song though!
No worries, Stevie Woods is hard to get indeed!
