The Brief:
Lisa Coleman is celebrating a birthday this week so, we’re gonna put the spotlight on her and the music she has been a part of during her career. Good news? More Wendy & Lisa on the blog this week! Bad news? This is going to exhaust all the Wendy & Lisa that I currently have on vinyl. So, enjoy the week…
Lisa replaced Gayle Chapman as Prince’s keyboardist for the ‘Dirty Mind’ LP and tour; she was 19 at the time. She also played on Prince’s following albums and tours until completion of the ‘Parade’ project when she and Wendy Melvoin left to form Wendy & Lisa. “Let’s Work” was the second single released from the ‘Controversy’ album and the song was a dance floor smash, along with “Controversy”, spending six weeks atop the Billboard Hot Dance/Disco chart.
