The A Side:
Let’s Work (Dance Remix, Long Version) 8:02
The B Side:
Gotta Stop (Messin’ About) 2:55
The Brief:
Before the pop success of ’1999′ and the purple explosion of ‘Purple Rain’, Prince released an album in 1981 entitled ‘Controversy’. At this point in his career, Prince was more accepted by R&B radio and dance clubs than the Top 40 market. “Let’s Work” was the second of three singles released from the ‘Controversy’ LP. Although it didn’t crack the Hot 100 chart, it did reach #104 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart. “Let’s Work” spent six weeks at #1 on the Hot Dance/Disco chart.
I think that this is the first 12″ record I ever got through mail order. I ordered it from an ad in Goldmine magazine long before I ever knew what an “internet” was. The 1-2 punch of an extended remix workout of “Let’s Work” and the non-album B-Side of “Gotta Stop (Messin’ About)” made this a must have record.

This has to be one of Prince’s best extended 12′s, I have it on vinyl, but never got to play it. Thanks for the share Rich.
