The Brief:
Released on July 18, 1984 “Let’s Go Crazy” became Prince‘s second number-one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 and also topped the Hot Black Singles and Hot Dance/Disco charts as well as becoming a UK Top 10 hit. It was the second single released in the US from the Grammy winning album ‘Purple Rain’. It was the highest debut song of the week on August 4, 1984 at #45. On September 1, 1984 “Let’s Go Crazy” cracked the top 10 at #8 while “When Doves Cry” was still at #5. It spent 2 weeks at #1 on the Hot 100.
