The B Side:
Love Or Money (Extended Version) 6:50

The Brief:
Those of you who have, or have heard of, the Fun With Vinyl collections that I released prior to starting this blog, may be noticing that some of those songs are starting to show up as posts. Yep, everything that was in those collections will eventually turn up here in a post as part of the original vinyl configuration as it was released.

Today’s post is the 12” release of Prince’s #1 Hot 100 hit “Kiss”. It’s from the ‘Parade’ album of 1986 that served as the soundtrack to the movie ‘Under The Cherry Moon’. The B-Side is the extended version of “Love or Money”. This track has never been made available on CD. “Kiss” was the Hot Shot Debut at #52 for the week of February 22, 1986. In its 9th week on the chart it hit #1 and held that spot for two weeks. One of the songs it kept out of the top spot was The Bangles’ “Manic Monday”, a song penned by Prince as well. So, for the week of April 19, 1986, Prince was the songwriter of the #1 and #2 songs for that week. “Kiss” also held the top spot on the Hot Black Singles chart for four weeks and on the Hot Dance/Disco chart for two.

My God, I’m loving June! Thanks for the daily Prince posts!

Hey, I never really ran across your “Fun With Vinyl” collections but stumbled across the covers on a Google search. Good job with those. They are well done. I wondered if the fact they had the same name as the site meant anything?

I enjoy listening to the rare versions–even if they are not always the definitive take. Thanks.

Fun With Vinyl was the name I came up with for the original collections and it just carried over to become the name of the blog. I liked it so, I stuck with it. The covers you ran across on Google were done by an internet-friend that goes by the handle “squirrelgrease”. He’s a very talented graphic artist.

  3. Sean says:

Yeah, the covers are great. I have squirrelgrease’s stuff before.

When I said that some of the rare long versions are not essential, I was not taking about these two: the extended “Kiss” & “Mountains” are the only way to hear these songs.

    • djrichiep says:

LOL, I kinda wondered what you meant by “not essential” but, I just left it alone.

      • Sean says:

Sorry, the non-essential thought had been thinking back to the Fine Young Cannibals remixes and some other recent posts of songs that were better at 3-4 minutes.

Fun song to listen to ~ THX!

Thank you. I can now retire my 12″ copy.
