The A Side:
Fo-Fi-Fo (Vocal/LP Version) 4:40
The Brief:
“You guys play jazz?” “No!” Well, sometimes they do and whether it’s jazz or R&B, they do it well. Pieces of a Dream hail from the city of Philadelphia and the nucleus of the band was formed in 1976 by three teens; bassist Cedric Napoleon, drummer Curtis Harmon, and keyboardist James Lloyd. Today’s promo 12” is a double A-side of the single “Fo-Fi-Fo” from their third LP ‘Imagine This’. The song was written, arranged, conducted and produced by Grover Washington, Jr. and is a tongue in cheek jab at a quip made by NBA player Moses Malone during the 1982 Philadelphia 76ers playoff season.

The 1983 Sixers were (sadly) the best team I ever saw. I was a Lakers guy. Their greatness (and the brief but brilliant career of Andrew Toney) is now sort of a fond memory. Thanks for the up.
i just told Steve this on Facebook, not being an NBA fan, I listened to this song for nearly 30 years not knowing what Fo-Fi-Fo referenced until I did research for this post!
Well, Moses said “Fo-Fo-Fo” as a prediction and damn near backed up that claim.
Grover played a sax national anthem before quite a number of Sixer games. In an era when not that many people were watching the NBA, I appreciated that he was such a fan and bought some of his records partly because of that.
I was the opposite of you: I never knew there was a song but have never forgot the confident prediction. Arguably bolder than “The Super Bowl Shuffle”; inarguably a better better record.
uh yeah, can’t argue that at all, I will never pay 1 cent for Super Bowl Shuffle, that was AWFUL
Thanks for sharing
you’re welcome Taylor
