Lovin’ your site (as always)!! I’m a big Prince fan who’s also nuts about 80′s/90′s remixes, so ‘Fun With Vinyl’ is a treasure trove for me. One quick note: although “(It’s Just) The Way That You Love Me” was indeed the second single released from her debut album, it failed to crack the Top 40 at the time. Third single “Straight Up” was the breakthrough song that actually became her first Top 5 (and #1) hit. “(It’s Just) The Way That You Love Me” finally cracked the Top 5 AFTER she made it there with “Straight Up”, “Forever Your Girl” and “Cold Hearted”. [Sorry if I'm being nit-picky...I was 16 when those songs were on the charts and was an obsessive follower of the music charts back then.]
Keep up the AWESOME work!!
Yeah, I kinda got lazy on this one, I had chart info for the first time it was released and chart info for the “re-release” but, I only posted the chart info for the second time around. You are correct, the first time out of the gate, this song only got as high as #88 when it charted on 11/12/88 and dropped off after only 5 weeks. 88 is where it debuted and dropped to 91, 92, 90, 95 and then off. So, yeah, technically, “Straight Up” went Top 5 first. Nice catch.
Thanks for this! Since this song was issued as a single twice (first in 1988 and then a second time in 1989), can anyone tell me if the same remixes were issued both times, or if they did new remixes for the 1989 single? Thanks.
According to discogs.com these are the only mixes that were released in the US. A UK promo 12″ had some different mixes: UK Remix, The Paula Abdul Megamix and Drums All The Way Mix
Paula was unstoppable in 1989-1991!
Doug, as for as I know, the same mixes were used for the re-release.
I have more Paula but, none of it is ready for posting yet
Lovin the Paula! Thanks, djrichiep 8)
U R quite welcome!
I have to agree with the others here, this is a very cool place. I prefer the original vinyl over remasters any day of the week…I don’t care how good people say they sound they’ve usually been destroyed by the “loudness wars” and aren’t worth a squat.
Thanks for caring enough to share the good stuff.
Cheers!!!!
You’re welcome Shawn, thanks for the kind words.
Good post. I picked up the UK 12″ promo recently and the mixes are a bit different. The main UK remix went with more of a housey vibe and would have been really good EXCEPT they cut most of the vocals out. Shame shame. Megamix is nice. If you need the mixes let me know vinyl was excellent shape.
Keep up the great work!
Thank you very much. I can now retire my old 12″.
