The Brief:
Men Without Hats hail from Montreal, Qubec and came together as a band in 1977. The name of the band originates from the quirk that lead singer Ivan Doroschuk and his two brothers refused to wear hats during Montreal’s cold winters, calling themselves “the men without hats.” The group gained international success in 1982 with their hit “The Safety Dance” which was a Top 5 US hit and reached #6 on the UK Singles Chart. For their third studio LP, released in 1987, the group released the title track “Pop Goes The World” which became their second and final Top 40 hit in the US.

Nice selection, thanks. The wife appreciates it. I don’t remember this video, but I do always remember the Safety Dance video with the strange, overly-bouncy girl dancing all over the place. She kind of scared me, actually. Her expression reminded me of the mother of CARRIE at the end when she came after her with the knife. Probably just me…

    LOL!
Made me chuckle reading that bit, Mike.
I felt that way back then too…I remember her looking a bit expressionless and demented.
After the “novelty” that is the Safety Dance, I thought we’d heard the last of MWH.
This single is really the second wind for them in the US.
