The Brief:
Who the hell is/was Melvin James? Well, the most info I could come up with on the internet was from some comments on a couple of blogs. Melvin was a member of The Crash Street Kids who played around Minneapolis from 1981 to 1984. They had one album that went nowhere. Melvin went on to form the group Planet Melvin with his son. This 1987 single came from Melvin’s only solo album, on MCA Records, titled ‘The Passenger’. The full title of the single is “Why Won’t You Stay (Come In, Come Out Of The Rain)”. It didn’t chart on the Billboard Hot 100 but, it certainly should have. Was MCA not putting out enough payola in 1987?
