Side A:
100 MPH 3:09
Side B:
Don’t Leave Me Baby 4:00
The Brief:
The second of three singles from their eponymous debut album. “100 MPH” was written by Prince for the band and was their best charting single. It entered the Hot Black Singles chart on May 17, 1986 and crested at #19. It spent 14 weeks on the chart before dropping off. (Are any of you actually reading this stuff I type up?) The B-Side “Don’t Leave Me Baby” was a non-album track that later appeared on their 2nd album (albeit, in a different arrangement). The single edit of “100 MPH” is over four minutes shorter than the album cut.
