The A Side:
20th Century Express (Extended Version) 5:30
The B Side:
All The Discomforts Of Home 4:00
The Brief:
“People say, `What are you doing with a guy who writes dirty songs?` But I never paid much attention to the lyrics. . . .”
In 1989, Mavis Staples signed with Prince’s Paisley Park Records and work began on the LP ‘Time Waits For No One’. The album contained six Prince compositions along with two tracks written by Homer Banks and Lester Snell. The first single, surprisingly, was one of the Banks/Snell songs: “20th Century Express”. This 12” features an extended version of the song along with another Banks/Snell song on the b-side but, not from the album.

Great, thank you!
You’re welcome Johan
I do love this little album. However, there’s a glaring difference between the Prince songs, and Banks & Snell. She worked the hell out of the album. Not sure if I knew about this single either! Awesome sauce.
good deal
knew of her affiliation with Prince but not of this single, and perhaps it’s the record company’s compromise to release a non-Prince song as the first single?
heck, who knows Ric? it’s not a bad song either way
thanks for this and all the other music!
there was a video for this single as well
you’re welcome Timmy
