The Brief:
Before the multi-platinum hype of “U Can’t Touch This”, M.C. Hammer’s first major label LP was ‘Let’s Get It Started’ on the Capitol Records label. The album has been certified as a double platinum selling record and reached the #1 spot on the US Billboard R&B albums chart. “Pump It Up” was the first single from the LP. The record samples from “The Champ” by The Mohawks, “Hot Pants” by James Brown and “Al-Naafiysh (The Soul)” by Hashim. It was produced by M.C. Hammer along with former Con Funk Shun band member Felton Pilate.
