The Brief:
La Toya Jackson is the fifth of the nine famous Jackson family children. She is the younger sister of Rebbie and Janet’s older sister, the “middle child” of the three girls. In 1980, she released her first solo LP on Polydor Records but, by 1986 had left that label and signed with CBS Records to release her fourth album entitled ‘Imagination’. The title track from that LP was released on this 12” single as a “Hot Dance Remix” mixed by Rick Gianatos. On the flip side is an “Extended Dance Bonus Track” of Prince’s “Private Joy” a cover song that originally appeared on La Toya’s ‘Heart Don’t Lie’ LP of 1984.

Private Joy is one of my favorite old school Prince jams!! And I must say… LaToya does a descent enough cover version… I’ve had the 7” version for years. I’m looking forward to this Extended Dance version. Thanks!!
Yes, the Controversy LP was my first Prince purchase, I am very much a fan of that album. And, surprisingly, yeah, La Toya does a decent cover. You’re welcome.
