Thank you
Patrick
you’re welcome Patrick
This 12” Was Very Hard To Track Down!!! I found the tracks sprightly searching
the internet for about 2 years now but the quality was not great. Thank you so much!!!
happy to be of service my good man
Home from work, and as promised…
Now that I look at the playing times, I am fairly certain I have never heard Jim Bonnefond’s Remix. I definitely know I’ve never heard the Dub. So, this is a real treat!
I am not sure why this one didn’t chart as high as the 2 other upbeat singles, as they all are made up with the same ingredients. I am not taking anything away from either “Misled” or “Fresh”, I am just a bit partial to “Emergency”. I mean, especially with a lyric like, “I need 10 CCs of hot passion” (if you look up the lyrics, those in particular are often misquoted).
So, thanks, Richie! I look forward to hearing this one!
It always seemed to me that K&tG were a bit underrated but, for a time there in the 80s they were rolling out hit after hit. I agree that Emergency should have had every bit as much hit potential, I especially note similarities between it and Misled, the prominent guitar, the heavy beat. But, yeah, I really liked this 12″. Let me know what you think after listening.
I guess it’s just down to the law of diminishing returns that this didn’t chart as well, but it did help to sell the parent album.
Thanks for this rare 12″ Richie!
cheers mate!
Let’s see if I can reply in the right section this time.
You are so right, in saying that K&tG were underrated. Just looking at their Top 40 Singles (from Billboard’s Hot 100), I am always surprised at most of their singles’ chart placings. There are so many of them I would have thought charted higher than they actually did. A lot of their 80s singles peaked in the lower part of the Top 10 to the teens.
Take “Fresh”, for example. That definitely sounds like a Top 5 (dare I say a #3) smash. Yet, it only reached #9. Not so suprisingly (I suppose), their biggest hits in the 80s were two ballads…”Joanna” and “Cherish” (both reached #2).
Going back to “Emergency” (the song)…What I really wanted to say in my post below, is that the album version is more Funk/Rock than the single/video version. I do enjoy a horn section every now and then, but I much prefer the Funk/Rock sound.
The album version is made up with keyboard instead of so much brass. And…AND…the guitar! I mean, come on! That guitar rocks! I think I now understand why the song only reached #18. The public was digging the album version, more than the “Chicago-fied” version.
While I was downloading, I had watched the music video on You Tube. I was then reminded that the video version had more brass instruments than the album version. Now, I love the album version, as I feel it has more of a punch without the extra instrumentation. But, with the video version being remixed, I would assume the 7″ Single was as well, and that should have generated more sales. But, assumptions aren’t always correct. Then again, this was the 4th single from the album, so I supposed that those that had already bought the album didn’t feel it was necessary to purchase the single.
I did enjoy the remixes. The Jim Bonnefond Remix (to me) seems like a hybrid of the album version and what is heard in the video. The bass is deeper and the horn section isn’t as prominent with the spooky (if you will) siren sound effects. I am immediately drawn to the JB Remix for this reason. The Dub is exactly what Dubs were back in the day. With this one, the percussion really takes front seat over the horns.
There aren’t many 12″ Singles that get me talking, but you really found one here that did the trick, and for that…I say Thank You once again!
Terrific post. I don’t say “Thank You” nearly as much as I should, nor do I donate as often as I could. I think today is a good day to change that! I love the Emergency album, and the remixes that accompanied it, especially “Misled”. Thanks again for the great work. It is truly, truly appreciated.
Cheers
-Dan
You’re welcome Dan, thank you for the very kind words
