Thank you so much for all the Jody Watley. Still love her after all these years and it still sounds good!

Note: your embedded artwork is too large. Should be less than 256kb and 600×600 pixels or less. Most people still use the old iPod standard size of 300×300, but 2mb per each track is way too much.

You’re welcome. On the artwork, yeah, that will change when my next batch of records is encoded and archived for posting. Unfortunately, that means all the records posted from now until about mid-January will be like this. I originally thought the higher the quality, the better! How could you go wrong? Well, live and learn…

Nice lisa lisa / electro intro on this. Very mixable.

Thanks for reminding me of the greatness of this set of Jody 12″s!!!

  3. Matt Coplestone says:

    Hi,

Fantastic posts as always. If I can play devil’s advocate ! don’t change the artwork quality, this is what makes this website so great in addition to the tracks. Customers downloading can always re-size the artwork to a smaller size or lower quality. Not all of us are i-pod users, cd and vinyl is still the best ! Keep up the great posts. Matt

    • djrichiep says:

Rest easy Matt, what is being referred to is the artwork embedded in the mp3 files, not the scans provided in the RAR files. Those will not change.

Oh, and the term “customers”? LOL If I have customers, I am running the most backwards-ass business in the world, where I do all the work buy all the records and give it all away. I should fire the guy that wrote my business plan!

…of course, in the mpls songbook, *nothing* can compete with the Apollonia 6 “Some Kind of Lover”…but this is a good contender.

Nice dub too, this is back when they put actually useful dubs on the 12″ (i.e. dubs you could use to make your own remix).

    Three cheers for Jody week!!!

  5. Marc from Nova Scotia says:

Love your site, as always. Just reminding you that “Some Kind Of Lover” was her THIRD top 10, after “Looking For A New Love” and “Don’t You Want Me”. [Sorry for being nitpicky...I used to be obsessed with music charts growing up. Better than doing drugs, I guess. :-) ]

I can explain! Really I can! I don’t have DYWM ready to post and I was counting based on the records posting this week and forgot about DYWM. And yes, you are correct, it debuted on the charts in Oct of 87, I will correct the post.

  6. oldDJ says:

Your vinyl is pristine on these dubs. I wore my copies out (esp. the dubs) making my own mixes….it’s so great to hear them again in such good fidelity!!

The sound quality you’re delivering on these 3 Jody 12″ is really phenomenal (tight firm bass punch, perfect non-shrill highs — and there’s a lot of shrill stuff going on that could take you over the edge, but you’ve kept it all in check).

This vinyl to digital thing is an art form, and you’re hitting it out of the park.

  7. Brad says:

    Great post. More Jody, please!

  8. ric says:

Jody is certainly the runaway High Fashion Diva of Dance back then.
Janet was too nasty, Whitney too safe and Madonna too controversial.
Her high forehead and cheekbones sure scored stylized points for her. And those signature mega looped ear-rings didn’t hurt that image a single bit!

  9. Andrew says:

    I F***king Love these posts
But I’m sure u guessed that xx
