The B Side:
77 Bleeker St
The Brief:
Technically, this is the 200th post at Fun With Vinyl but, technically it’s the 190th record posted at Fun With Vinyl but, still a milestone so, thanks to everyone that have sent words of encouragement and appreciation. And now, as promised, here come the Jill Jones records…
The story is that Jill Jones first met Prince in 1980 when she was 18 years old. From that point, she and Prince kept in touch and soon Prince was bringing her in to do background vocals during the recording of 1999. She also appeared in his videos and toured as a background vocalist for Vanity 6. She also scored roles in Purple Rain and Grafitti Bridge. In 1987, the LP ‘Jill Jones’ was released on Paisley Park Records. The first single was “Mia Bocca” and it was backed with the non-album track “77 Bleeker St.” None of Jill’s singles charted on any of Billboard’s major US charts.
