Welcome
Hello Everybody, I am a great funk fan
Then you should love all the Jesse this month…
Thanks for exposing me to Jesse Johnson. I don’t know why I dismissed him back in the day, but I’m glad to be finally enlightened.
Oh man, I played the crap out of this Jesse stuff when it came out, loved loved loved it. Glad I can share it now and let you hear what you may have missed.
Hey man, i’m kinda lucky) Decided to visit your site and there’s more Jesse. Thanks really, he’s my favourite singer and guitar player after Hendrix
Then February is your lucky month…
Thanks, Richie! MPLS funk doesn’t get much better than Jesse’s early output. Looked high and low for Free World for years with no luck (doesn’t help things living in white bread, top-40 middle America). Finally came across the extended cut on an old school funk compilation CD 12-13 years ago (doesn’t quite have the warmth that this 7″ or the 12″ have). Would still love to find a copy of the original 12″ vinyl for my collection. Still can’t believe he left Free World off of that album. Great track!
The full extended version of Free World is on his Ultimate Collection along with 4 other 12″ cuts that weren’t previously available on CD. The Ultimate Collection is still in print:
Definitely… I was all over the Ultimate Collection when it was released. That’s got some great rare stuff on it (just wish they would have put Drive Yo Cadillac on there). UC didn’t come out until several years after I found the extended version of FW on that funk comp (Phat Trax – The Best of Old School Vol. 3 from 1995). I’m still curious where his version of Fast Girls (Janet) came from. Was it a b-side at some point or had it never been released prior to the Ultimate Collection?
Well, the Fast Girls question will be answered later today and you will see DYC in a few more days… so, we got that going for us, which is nice
i click on links to get music and a new window pops up with a .rar ending url and it is just a bunch of code. I am not getting a link to the music or the correct .rar file with the music in it. What am i doing wrong. none of the links work for me and i am not being taken anywhere to enter a password?
Let me guess, you are using Safari as your browser? Safari and RAR files do not play nice together. Would you be able to install a different browser, such as Firefox, and give that a try? I have heard from other visitors that Firefox allowed them to download the RAR files where Safari would not.
Just to follow up, makosica and I corresponded via email and he confirmed that Safari was the issue and using Firefox enabled him to download the files, just FYI for others using Safari and having problems…
