The Brief:
In 1981 The J. Geils Band released their most successful album entitled ‘Freeze Frame’. The track “Flamethrower” was released as a single and went to #25 on the Billboard Hot Black Singles chart in 1982. That same year saw the debut album release by a pair of rappers named Felix & Jarvis. The lead single from their self-titled LP was “Flamethrower Rap” which was basically the two rappers trading lines over the instrumental version of The J. Geils Band’s “Flamethrower”. One of the album’s producers and engineers… Don Was of Was (Not Was). Are you ready to throw down? Yes we are!
