Side B:

Decadance (Sampled from the LP “Decade” C1-93178) 3:29

The Brief:
I don’t think I have seen this on DJPaulT’s website Burning The Ground so, I’m gonna post it here and call him out for having such a cool website name but, not posting this single! Heh heh, I keed because I love! This 12” was sampled from the 1989 release ‘Decade: Greatest Hits’, released as a single only and did not appear on ‘Decade’. No chart success in the U.S. but, went to #31 on the UK Singles Chart. C’mon Paul, aren’t you just a bit embarrased by this?

Thanks for “Fun With Vinyl.” I have found copies of many of my lost favorites from the 1980′s and 90′s, many of which I had in my own collection of 12” vinyls, which a person close to me took to a record store and sold for money, when we had a disagreement. Those were my favorite records, and seeing my extended singles online again is a great consolation for being able to hear those releases I will never have in my own physical collection again. Your collection is one to be proud of yourself, you have a lot of the R&B, Funk, Electronica, Synth-Pop, and Dance sounds that I preferred from the 80s and early 90s.

BTW: DJPaulT finally did post “Burning The Ground” on January 17, 2011.

I don’t see any reason why you shouldn’t keep your post up also. Many people will not find both your collection and DJPaulT’s, especially if they don’t see this post, although both posts are worthy of notice and appreciation.

So because of your site, which I discovered the other day, I have also “discovered” Paul’s site as well. Great stuff, guys…keep it up. What you’re doing is something I’ve wanted to do for many years due to the vast 80s 12″ singles collection that I have. One day I may find the motivation…

But anyway, what I actually want to comment on is the “Decadance” track on this single. All these years I’ve owned this 12″ as well, but it wasn’t until listening today that I noticed the bassline in this track is from “Welcome” by Gino Latino. Not sure if it’s sampled or replayed, but it was definitely an influence. Just a little tidbit of info in case either of you hadn’t noticed. :-)

Thanks for taking the time to rip these great tunes!

Jim, I hope you one day have the time to start a blog of your own. The more people doing this, the more these hard to find, out of print gems can be archived to the world. I’ve never listened close enough to notice the bassline but, coincidentally, “Welcome” will be posted to the blog next month so, others can make the comparison you have. Thanks for visiting and commenting.

If I ever get around to it, the first 12″ I’ll rip is that of one I just purchased today from a used record store: Depeche Mode “Behind the Wheel.” I already had a copy from when it was first released, but years of playing it in various night clubs has taken its toll, and the one I bought today is in near-mint condition. Why this one? Because the 7:50 “megamix” of Behind the Wheel/Route 66 was only available on a promo CD single in the U.S. and I’ve never been able to locate it. I’ll never understand why Sire didn’t put this original 12″ mix on the commercial U.S. CD maxi. So anyway…I’ve always wanted a clean rip of it to play on CD, so it will be my mission to have it some day. :-)

Oh yeah, I’m looking forward to hearing Gino Latino again in its full glory. My 12″ is buried away in storage and would take a bit of digging to find it. :-)
