The Brief:
Released in 1983 on Quincy Jones’ Qwest Records label, this EP marked the debut of Dreamboy. The band was led by lead singer Jeffrey Stanton who co-produced this EP and wrote all of the songs. The track “Don’t Go” was released as a single and hit the Hot Black Singles chart on 1/7/84, climbed to #17 and stayed for 17 weeks. The EP went to #168 on the Billboard 200 albums chart and hit #32 on the Billboard Hot Black Albums chart. A Prince/Minneapolis sound is definitely audible on this record and was what drew me to it at the time of its release. It remains one of my favorite records to this day and was one of the reasons I started looking into ways of doing quality conversions of vinyl records to a digital format.
