The Brief:
The first of three singles from his 1985 ‘Crazy From The Heat’ EP.  “California Girls” is a cover of the Beach Boys classic tune from 1965.  It was the highest entry for the week of January 19, 1985 on the Billboard Hot 100 at #43.  It spent 16 weeks on the chart and reached #3, which was also the peak position the Beach Boys reached with it, 20 years prior.  It also hit #3 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and got to #29 on the Adult Contemporary chart.  The remix on the B-Side has never been available on CD.  Songwriter Brian Wilson’s brother, Carl, provided background vocals on Dave’s version.
