The Brief:
Did you know there was a connection between Prince and Con Funk Shun? OK, well, it’s a very thin connection but, for three Con Funk Shun albums from 1979 to 1983, Sheila E.’s dad, Pete Escovedo, was credited as a percussion player. Alright, yeah, that’s really stretching it and has absolutely nothing to do with the 12″ in this post. So, what do we have here? “Tell Me What (I’m Gonna Do)” is the third and final single from Con Funk Shun’s 1985 long player ‘Electric Lady’. The album charted at #9 on the Hot Black Albums chart and at #62 on the Billboard 200.
