The Brief:
In 1972, Bill Withers wrote and released “Lean On Me” as a single. The song reached #1 on the Billboard R&B and Pop singles charts. Club Nouveau recorded this cover of the song and saw it go to #1 on the Billboard Pop and Dance charts in 1987. Only nine songs in history have gone to #1 twice as recordings by two different artists. Bill Withers received a 1987 Grammy award for Best R&B Song as a result of Club Nouveau’s success with this single.
