The Brief:
These guys were everywhere in the 80s weren’t they? The song “Fidelity”, from Cheryl Lynn‘s 1985 album ‘It’s Gonna Be Right’, was produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. What was so amazing about their output in the 80s was how prolific it was yet the quality was always top-notch. Quality not quantity? Not in their case, they rolled out one great song after another no matter what artist they were working with. In this case, they hooked up with Cheryl Lynn for the second time in two years to produce two songs (a third is credited to Monte Moir) on the ‘It’s Gonna Be Right’ album which went to #56 on the R&B Albums chart.

Yes, JaM & Lewis were already doing very well pre-Janet Jackson. Their work with SOS Band, Change, Cherrelle, Alexander O’Neal and Cheryl were amazing…until LA Reid & Babyface came and stole their thunder in the late 80s.
Thank you!
