My other favourite single from this album besides the duet.
Thanks Richie!
I wonder how she felt when Janet Jackson ran away with mega success in 1986 with the same producer and the same formula she’s been working with for two years!
Not to take anything away from Janet’s talent, she obviously is a very talented lady. But, don’t you think the difference was all in the name? Janet Jackson of the Jackson family vs Cherrelle of…? Let’s say that Cherrelle was given the material from ‘Control’ and released it under her name. Do you think it would have been as commercially successful? Conversely, if Janet had released ‘High Priority’, would it have blown up as big as ‘Control’ did? Because it was Janet Jackson, I think it would have.
Here I am, Richie!
Well, I would tend to agree with you…but, if it’s just the Jackson family name…why didn’t Janet’[s earlier albums make it big? And what about the flop that is Lotaya? LOL!
But I guess Janet does have the edge in terms of family names, and also youth (in 1986), and also MTV support.
Yeah, good points. And, not to say Cherrelle was a nobody but, I still don’t think that “Jane Doe” would have enjoyed near the commercial success that Janet did. It was the perfect storm of name recognition and promotion.
my 5 cents on this:
I do like Cherelle, especially her ‘Saturday Love’ duet with Alex O’Neal.
However I think that Janet Jackson’s success back then with her album ‘Control’ in 1986 was a result of her and the Flyte Tyme producers successfully introducing a new, harder sound and of course an aggressive marketing via videos featured on MTV. I wonder if Cherelle would have agreed to accept that sort of harder funk/disco sound. Does anyone remember Janet Jackson’s first 2 albums of 1982 or 1984? They had been huge flops over here in Europe, me personally became aware of Janet Jackson first with her ‘Control’ album which came at the right time with a new sound… that may sound a bit dated today sometimes maybe….
The material on ‘Control’ was so strong I can’t imagine Cherrelle or anyone else turning it down. I was familiar with some of Janet’s singles from her first two albums but neither album was anywhere close to the consistency of ‘Control’.
Thanks a lot for sharing all of these Cherrelle singles!!
You’re welcome Taylor!
Thanks for letting me revisit my, sadly, distant youth. Loved this sound back in the mid 80′s but the stores in rural Scotland never really embraced the concept of the 12”, so these versions are revelations to me. Love them.
You’re welcome Gaz
Hi Mr.FWV
Yes, to ric ! – the UK never seemed to quite ‘embrace’ Cherrelle
Considering How Luv’d Big Alex is ?
I loved the b-side track too x
p.s. Mr. FWV
Whoever ‘Gaz’ is – I think he’s pullin’ your chain or something?
Cos Scotland has some of the ‘hot-est’ Dj’s /Dance Music/ Scene’s in Europe
Some people should get out more…………..xx
Now, in Gaz’s defense, he particularly said “rural” Scotland which I can relate to very much. I grew up in a rural area myself, our address was Rural Route 2. I didn’t find that much in the way of 12″ records in my area either. It wasn’t until I went to college in Atlanta and discovered used record shops that I was able to really begin building my collection of 12″ singles. Before college, I had to mail order some things because they were not available locally.
Do u also got their fantastic “Will You Satisfy” on a 12″?!
That would be awesome…
Thanks anyway for all that fine Cherrelle stuff.
That record is currently in “production” and has a long line of other records ahead of it. One day it will be here…
Ok, cool!
One day is definately better than never.
I’ll be patient
Thanks man!
Thank you
Sry 4 doubleposting… but
What about her “When You Look In My Eyes” 12″?
Ditto for this one…
Thank you!
you’re welcome Johan
thanks for this one !!!!!!
you’re welcome Jose
