So cool to have the edit! I know the album and extended versions so well, this will be fun to acquaint with!
It’s so funny that The Pointer Sisters covered this song an album before Chaka did yet it became one of her signature songs. Of course, that’s ‘cos she bested them. And Prince, for that matter. =)
She certainly had more chart success with it than anyone else! Quite a star-studded song all around.
Thanks for this one! I think I still have my 7″ copy around somewhere…
You’re welcome.
You’re right, this ain’t ugly for sure!
In fact, it’s a pure gem from 1984!
btw, Rebbie Jackson also covered this song back then.
Thanks Richie!
Glad you agree!
I’m surprised that so few fans know about Pointer Sisters version of this from a few years before Khan’s version. I so rarely hear it brought up. It’s a good musical note that Chaka hated the rap in the song. Over the years, she’s grown to appreciate it, and understands the fans loved it. Also, the dancers & people in the video were outtakes & unused footage from a clothing commercial! That’s why everyone is so nicely dressed (for 1984), and posing like a motherfucker! Footage of her was just put into the other stuff, and there you have an 80′s video.
I seem to recall that Melle Mel exacerbated the bad feelings Chaka had about the rap by claiming that the rap was what made the song a hit. There was quite an argument there at one time about what made the song so successful. Of course, I still contend that it was the perfect melding of so many talents coming together at just the right time.
Nice, I don’t have the 7″ edit of this, thanks.
btw, djrichiep I love and appreciate your blog hugely, not just for the Prince-related rips, but your general great taste! But, can I say that it would be even more amazing if you tagged the FLAC files, most of the time they don’t have any ID Tags – it’s not a big deal to do it myself, which I do – but I would think after going to all the trouble and hard work of ripping so many great releases, tagging them correctly would be the icing on the cake!
Keep up the good work, it’s genuinely appreciated
Are you the SuzyLovelace from the Demonoid days of Fun With Vinyl? So, I’m not doing enough work to satisfy you guys, is that what I’m hearing? LOL I will take that under advisement but, I make no promises. See, I never tag my FLAC files and, theoretically, these vinyl rips I do are for my archiving purposes that I gladly share with others that are interested to have them. Actually, I was hesitant to tag the MP3 files because, I always redo MP3 tags whenever I download something because no one else in the world seems to tag the same as I do. So, I figured, why not just let everyone tag the files the way they want them. Anyway, I’ll consider it but, I’m not leaning favorably towards it right now.
The very same SuzyLovelace!
That’s cool Rich, I understand everyone does their tags differently, I do have my own little system how I like to do them too! I didn’t mean to sound demanding or ungrateful – keep up the good work
cool! glad you are here and I didn’t take it as being demanding or ungrateful, I hope I didn’t give that impression, sarcasm is a huge part of my humor and sometimes sarcasm is hard to relay in printed word.
I got it Rich, no worries
I draw the line at Jive Bunny though!
LOL, I can’t argue the Jive Bunny!
Great harmonica on this jam.Thanks
wasn’t this meant to be on the 12” – my copy had a sticker covering up the ’7” version’ as a track on side 2!
The US 12″ Maxi only lists “Chinatown” as the b-side. Maybe a UK 12″ had this as the b-side?
Luv this. appreciated
Quite welcome, I am assuming today’s Facebook item alerted you to this post?
Thanks so much for this! I read from Discogs that there is an instrumental dub mix of I Feel For You. Please upload. Much thanks!
