The Brief:
Actually listed on the 12” as David A. Stewart Introducing Candy Dulfer, “Lily Was Here” is from a Dutch movie bearing the same name. Released in the U.S. in 1991, it marked the first time Candy had charted a record with her name receiving/sharing top billing. Written and produced by David A. Stewart (of Eurythmics fame), it entered the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart on 5/18/91 at #91 where it spent 16 weeks and barely missed being a Top 10 single, stalling out at #11 for two weeks before starting its descent off the charts. Over on the Billboard Hot R&B Singles chart it debuted on 6/15/91, rose to #60 and exited the chart after nine weeks.
