The Brief:
This 12″ is part of the “Hot Classics” reissue series of the early 90′s. Numerous records were reissued from the Sugar Hill, TK, Sunnyview and AVI record labels. This release, a TK Records reissue, brings us “Ring My Bell” by Anita Ward and “The Hustle” by Van McCoy. Both #1 crossover smash hits were mostly identified with the disco era. “Ring My Bell” spent 2 weeks at #1 on the Hot 100 and 5 weeks at #1 on the Hot Black Singles chart.  Neither artist would enjoy later chart success that would come close to matching these two tracks. Heh, on Wikipedia it is cited that “Ring My Bell” is “about the clitoris”. Clitoris?!?! Ha! That ought to get me some hits on Google!

WikiPedia is choc-full of mis-quotes and stuff thats just not true – Though you have to admit ‘Ring My Bell’ is a tad more radio-friendly than ‘Fu*k Me Hard’ – which would (a-hem!) ‘fit’.

The original version of “The Hustle” that charted in 1975 is not what’s on this 12″. This is the posthumous remix from 1979. I like the 1975 version better; it has more “pizazz” :) But I am very happy to encounter a nice clean rip of the 1979 version all the same. Thanks!
