The Brief:
This month brings us several birthdays from purveyors of the Minneapolis sound; Alexander O’Neal will turn 58, Terry Lewis will be 55, Jellybean Johnson will also be 55, Mayte Garcia turns 38 and Morris Hayes will be 49. So, I’ve got quite a few Alexander O’Neal and Flyte Tyme Productions records queued up and ready to go so, let’s burn’em off for the month of November…
Alexander O’Neal supposedly “looked too black” to be a member of The Time, but he went on to have a very successful solo career that was boosted by his initial collaborations with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis’ Flyte Tyme Productions. The first single from Alexander’s first album was “Innocent”. The single made Billboard’s Bubbling Under The Hot 100 chart and spent two weeks at #101 but, never cracked the Hot 100.
