The Brief:
In 1983, Kraftwerk released a 12″ single entitled “Tour de France” that went to #4 on the Billboard Hot Dance/Disco chart. It was also featured prominently in a memorable scene in the movie Breakin’ but, did not appear on the soundtrack. Later that year, 10 Speed released their own 12″ covering the tune. “Tour de France” is a legendary 80′s tune despite minimal chart success.

Interesting. A seemingly note-for-note copy of the Kraftwerk song. Yet (blasphemy!) my wife and I like it better. Seems like it is faster paced somehow, and has more electro-feel to it. Quality Records had a number of these knock-offs: the Slingshot version of AC/DC’s “You Shook Me All Night Long” – I found that used a few years ago and it actually has a lot of charm. I’d love the hear the Nighthawk version of “Eye of the Tiger” though….
I have that AC/DC cover to post here one of these days. Haven’t heard of the Nighthawk track.
